Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that its air defense system, the Arrow 3, intercepted a missile targeting the country’s southern city of Eilat. According to the military, the missile was launched from Yemen and was intercepted over the Red Sea. “The target did not cross into Israeli territory,” IDF said on its official website. Previously, the Houthis claimed they fired a “batch of ballistic missiles” aiming at “various and sensitive targets” in the south of Israel. NN: The missiles being fired are the the longer range Toufan (Typhoon) ballistic missile reported to be in Houthi hands from Iran capable of striking at distances of 840-1,180 miles (1,350-1,900 km,) derided from Iran’s Ghadr missiles capable of achieving near earth orbit in outer space. The Toufan’s longer range suggests it may indeed be the kind of ballistic missile attacks that will eventually bring a further escalation of middle east hostilities.
