Prices of crude oil for future contracts declined on Monday as tensions between Israel and Iran seemed to calm down, seemingly providing some breathing room for commodity prices as no oil supply was directly threatened by recent developments in the Middle East. Over the weekend, Israel reportedly carried out a “limited” attack on Iran, to which Tehran has not responded. This strike was in retaliation for Tehran’s drone and missile attacks on April 13, which were themselves a response to Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus earlier this month. For June deliveries, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell 1.08% to sell at $81.36 per barrel at 7:47 am CET. Brent for the same month’s settlements slipped 1.03% to $86.39 a barrel.
