North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Mark Rutte announced on Friday that the alliance agreed to bolster its posture “even further” along its eastern flank after Russia’s alleged drone intrusion into Poland’s territory in a project titled Eastern Sentry. Speaking at a press conference at the group’s headquarters, Rutte stressed that Russian “recklessness” near the eastern flank is “increasing in frequency,” as similar incidents were reported earlier in Romania and across the Baltic. He noted that the entry of Russian drones into Poland, which Russia said was unintentional, was “intentional or not, dangerous” and “unacceptable.” Rutte said that, after Poland invoked Article 4, NATO convened for a meeting and reaffirmed its commitment to defending every member against any security risk that might arise. “We must, as NATO, must make clear our resolve and our ability to defend our territory,” he stressed.
