E-commerce giant Amazon.com outperformed analyst predictions on Thursday with its earnings per share (EPS) growth in the second quarter, while simultaneously missing estimates with its revenue figure. According to the update, Amazon’s EPS during the period were $15.12, rising from the $10.30 per share reported in the second quarter of 2020. However, the company posted revenue of $113.1 billion in the three months ended June 30, up 27% on the year but below expectations. Furthermore, Amazon’s guidance for the third quarter also came in weaker than projections as the company now expects sales between $106 billion and $112 billion. In reaction to the news, Amazon sank 5.33% to $3,408 per share in after-hours trading.
Gilead posts Q2 revenue at $6.2B, up 21% YoY
Gilead Sciences Inc. on Thursday announced its second-quarter revenue climbed 21% to $6.15 billion. Total costs and expenses were down 105% to $3.97 billion. Net income jumped from negative territory to $1.52 billion, while earnings per share grew to $1.21. The pharma company updated its guidance for full-year revenue to between $24.4 billion and $25.0 billion from between $23.7 billion and $25.1 billion. EPS is seen coming in between $4.70 and $5.05, compared to $4.75 to $5.45 previously. “We maintained our positive momentum in the second quarter, with both a solid financial performance and strong progress across our increasingly diverse portfolio. Our flagship HIV therapy, Biktarvy, saw continued growth and gains in market share, despite the ongoing impact of the pandemic,” CEO Daniel O’Day said.
Pinterest: Q2 revenue surges 125% to $613M
Pinterest Inc. reported on Thursday that its revenue in the second quarter of fiscal 2021 reached $613 million after soaring 125% from the same timeframe the previous year. Income from operations was $72 million, up from a $104.5 million loss from operations from the second three-month period in 2020. Net income hit $69.4 million in the second trimester of 2021, compared to a $100.7 million net loss a year ago, while diluted net income per share improved to $0.10 from diluted net loss per share of $0.17 recorded in the second quarter of 2020. “While we navigate through pandemic impacts, Pinterest is focused on building for the long-term by transforming from a place to browse, save and organize to a community of inspiring people sharing their passions and expertise,” CEO and co-founder Ben Silbermann said in a statement. Company shares plummeted 13.95% in after-hours trading following the release of the earnings report.
T-Mobile Q2 revenue up 13% to $20B YoY
T-Mobile communications company reported its financial results for the second fiscal quarter of 2021 on Thursday marking a 13% growth in revenue compared to the same period of 2020 to reach a total of $20 billion. Net income amounted to $978 million accounting for an eightfold increase from last year’s figures. The company’s earnings per share skyrocketed by 766.7% from $0.09 in the comparable period of the previous year to $0.78 per share. T-Mobile also added another 1.4 million clients this quarter, which is 107,000 accounts more year-on-year, bringing the total customer count to 104.8 million. “Stellar postpaid customer gains and industry-leading service revenue growth translated into industry-best growth in profitability and cash flow, and drove another beat and raise quarter – all fueled by unprecedented synergies that only T-Mobile can deliver,” said Mike Sievert, the CEO of T-Mobile. Following the report, T-Mobile stocks rose by 0.39% to sell for $145.20 per share in the after-hours trading.
