The idea of post-apocalyptic prepping has become more and more alluring, especially for the super-rich who are fighting to get their hands on a luxurious nuclear bunker.  For years a number of countries have been attempting to meet a growing demand for survival bunkers that could protect the world’s elite from things like natural disasters, asteroids or a global pandemic all while offering lavish amenities.  Larry Hall is the brainchild behind such luxury developments which he refers to as ‘Survival Condos’. The project  is a luxury complex housed 15 stories below ground in a former missile silo near Concordia, Kansas. The missile silos were originally built by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the 1960s during the Cold War for the Atlas F missile, and there were 72 of them around the country.  All of the apartments in Hall’s first complex sold out, but people have the option to buy a full-floor, half-floor or a penthouse unit in a second Survival Condo that is currently under construction. A full-floor apartment, spanning 1,800 square feet, will cost buyers $3million, while a 900-square-foot, half-floor unit is $1.5million. The ultra-wealthy can also make a penthouse selection starting at $4.5million.  Nick Note: You can build a nuke prof bomb shelter for less then a built in swimming pool if you do it yourself and can pass on the pool table and all the yuppie toys!

Iran’s supreme leader today hit back at the US for deadly strikes on Iraq and warned his country would not hesitate to strike after Donald Trump said Tehran would pay a ‘big price’ for the assault on the American consulate in Baghdad. ‘I and the government and the nation of Iran strongly condemn this American crime,’ Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said of USAF strikes which killed 25 members of Kataeb Hezbollah in Iraq on Sunday night. Thousands mobbed the US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday, breaching the heavily fortified Green Zone and torching the entrance, in protest to the deaths. President Trump, who deployed 100 Marines to protect the site last night, has accused Tehran of ‘orchestrating’ the assault. And on Wednesday the Iran-backing militia attacked the embassy for the second day in a row and the US Marines fired tear gas at the fighters who set part of the embassy on fire again.  Some 50 tents, portable toilets and cooking pots were shipped in as hundreds of the furious mob prepared a sit-in at the embassy’s gates, demanding that the US withdraw from Iraq.  Video has also emerged of one fighter telling cameras that he hopes to kill all Americans inside the embassy during the attack.  He said: ‘God willing if this fire reaches inside the embassy, we will not spare a single employee.’ It comes after Trump last night tweeted: “Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat.” In response, Khamenei retweeted the post and said: “That guy has tweeted that we (the United States) see Iran responsible for the events in Baghdad and we will respond to Iran.”First of all, you can’t do a damn thing! This has nothing to do with Iran,” the supreme leader in his televised address.

ExxonMobil makes 15th oil discovery in offshore Guyana

 Discovery adds to current resource estimate of more than six billion barrels of oil equivalent

American energy giant ExxonMobil made its 15th oil discovery offshore Guyana in South America, the company announced in a statement on Monday. The most recent discovery was made at the Mako-1 well, located approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southeast of the Liza field on the 26,800 square-kilometer Stabroek Block. The discovery adds to the current resource estimate of more than six billion barrels of oil equivalent, the statement said. Phase 1 of the Liza field began oil production on Dec. 20 and is expected to have an output of 120,000 barrels per day (bpd). With phase 2, oil output capacity is estimated to reach 220,000 bpd once additional production begins by mid-2022. A third oil development, from the Payara field north of the Liza discoveries, could start as early as 2023, and could see an additional output of 220,000 bpd. “New discoveries in this world-class basin have the potential to support additional developments,” Mike Cousins, senior vice president of exploration and new ventures at ExxonMobil, said in the statement. The company conducts drilling activities in Guyana with four drill ships, according to the statement. In the Stabroek Block, ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited is the operator and holds a 45% interest. While Hess Guyana Exploration Limited holds a 30% interest and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Petroleum Guyana Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC Limited, holds the remaining 25% stake.  Nick Note: The oil keeps coming and coming. And at $70 oil everyone is profitable. Shit you can make money shipping oil in 55 gallon barrels strapped to donkeys.

Iran Looks To Boost Offshore Oil Production By 85,000 Bpd

The Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) is currently implementing US$2.6 billion worth of projects expected to boost Iran’s offshore oil production by 85,000 barrels per day (bpd), Iranian media reported on Monday. The Iranian state-held offshore oil firm has awarded various projects to Iranian service contractors, Alireza Salman-Zadeh, the head of IOOC, said. The contracts include work on drilling, completion, and repair of 40 wells, as well as the construction and installation of wellhead equipment and five offshore platforms. Work is being done to boost oil production at the Siri field in the Persian Gulf under a contract with an Iranian company, Salman-Zadeh said.

Considering that Iran’s oil, shipping, and financial industries are under strict U.S. sanctions, Iran’s efforts to keep or increase its offshore oil production can be done only in contracts with domestic firms right now, because foreign firms fled Iran after the U.S. slapped back sanctions in May 2018.

Western majors such as Total were the first to quit Iran after the sanctions, but earlier this year even China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) withdrew from the development of Phase 11 of the giant South Pars natural gas field, in a major blow to Iran’s oil and gas industry.

The U.S. sanctions on Iran’s oil industry and exports have significantly cut Iranian oil exports over the past year, as the United States ended in May 2019 all waivers for all of Iran’s oil buyers and is going after anyone dealing with Iranian oil.

Iran continues to export oil, especially to China, but it has drastically increased the secrecy of how it ships that oil abroad and says that it is using every means possible to export its crude.

Meanwhile, crude oil production in Iran—once OPEC’s third-largest producer before the U.S. sanctions kicked in—dropped by another 45,000 bpd to average just 2.102 million bpd in November, according to OPEC’s latest data. To compare, Iran’s crude oil production averaged 3.813 million bpd in 2017.

US hits back at Iran-linked militia in Iraq after rocket attack

The US has attacked an Iranian-backed militia inside Syria and Iraq in retaliation for a rocket attack on a base that killed an American contractor. Pro-Iranian militia and the Iraqi government condemned the US action.

The US carried out airstrikes in Iraq and Syria targeting an Iran-backed Iraqi militia blamed for a rocket attack that killed an American defense contractor and wounded four US service members, the Pentagon said Sunday. The US retaliation threatens to unleash a dangerous spiral of escalation and backlash against the US military presence in Iraq at a time the country is politically unstable following nearly three months of deadly anti-government protests.   US forces “conducted precision defensive strikes” against three Kataeb Hezbollah bases in Iraq and two others in Syria, Defense Department spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement.  The strikes will “degrade KH’s ability to conduct future attacks,” he said, using an acronym for the group, adding that weapons facilities and command and control centers used to plan attacks against US forces were hit. At least 19 fighters were killed, Iraqi militia sources said. The US blamed Kataeb Hezbollah for a rocket barrage on Friday that killed an American defense contractor and wounded four US soldiers at the K1 Iraqi military base in Kirkuk in the north of the country. Several Iraqi soldiers were also wounded.  Kataeb Hezbollah is backed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s elite al-Quds force. Led by one of Iraq’s most powerful men, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the militia is part of the Popular Mobilization Units mobilized to fight against the “Islamic State” group. He once fought US troops during the post-Saddam Hussein military occupation and is now the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Forces. Hours after the US strikes, four rockets exploded near a base housing US troops close to the capital Baghdad without wounding anyone, an Iraqi security official told AFP. In response to the attacks, Kataib Hezbollah called for the expelling of the “American enemy” from Iraq. “The military, security forces as well as popular and patriotic powers have to expel the American enemy,” it said. Another powerful pro-Iran militia, Assaib Ahl al-Haq — which was recently slapped with US sanctions — similarly called for US forces to withdraw from Iraq.

“The American military presence has become a burden for the Iraqi state and a source of threat against our forces,” it said in a statement. “It is therefore imperative for all of us to do everything to expel them by all legitimate means.”

The rocket attack on the base in Kirkuk and US relation come at a time the country is engulfed in nearly three of anti-government protests that have killed more than 450 people and injured 25,000. The protests against corruption, poor services and a dire economy have been directed at the entire political class and increasingly against Iranian meddling in the country. Abdul-Mahdi said nothing following Friday’s attack in Kirkuk, but on Sunday criticized the United States. He called the US strikes a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a “dangerous escalation that threatens the security of Iraq and the region,” according to a statement issued from his office. Abdul-Mahdi said US Defense Secretary Mark Esper notified him shortly before the airstrikes and ignored a request to call off US retaliation plans.   Nick Note: I Guess things have changed.Trump is killing people now. Brazil Breaks Key Oil Production Milestone

Brazil’s crude oil production in November topped 3 million barrels per day for the first time ever, the National Petroleum Agency reported, adding that total oil and gas production rose to 3.95 million barrels of oil equivalent daily – also a record-breaking figure. The strong output result came on the back of ongoing ramp-up of production at eight new floating production, storage, and offloading facilities, S&P Global Platts reports, citing ANP data. The ramp-up added more than 100,000 bpd to the country’s total production between October and November. The annual increase in production exceeded 20 percent. The presalt zone has become the main contributor to growth in Brazil’s crude oil production. In fact, it accounts for about two-thirds of the country’s November total, at 2.061 million bpd. The biggest producing field, Lula, is in the presalt zone. It produced 1.063 million bpd of crude last month. The second and the third-largest producing fields were also in the presalt zone, which has garnered significant attention from supermajors as the next hot spot for oil production growth. The hot spot became hotter earlier this year, after the Brazilian government and Petrobras settled their dispute over an area in the presalt zone that could contain billions of untapped oil reserves. Petrobras raked in $9 billion from the settlement while the government prepared for as much as $27 billion in signing bonuses from the tender it planned for the transfer-of-rights area.
The tender took place in November and the government only raised $16 billion from the sale of rights to two of the four blocks offered. The winning bids came from Chinese companies: CNODC and CNOOC. They were the only ones that bid in the tender while other majors apparently decided to focus on current projects instead The two blocks are part of the Buzios field, which already produces some 600,000 bpd and is among the most promising parts of the presalt zone. Russia deploys hypersonic missile into ‘combat duty,’ state media claims

(CNN)Russia’s new hypersonic missile system known as Avangard has entered service, the country’s state media has reported. Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed the nuclear-capable missiles had been added to service during a conference call with President Vladimir Putin on Friday.Shoigu gave his congratulations to “everyone with this significant event for our country and for its armed forces,” according to remarks carried by Zvezda, the Defense Ministry’s news network. Hypersonic is generally defined as a speed of Mach 5 or over 3,806 mph. The missiles fly into space after launch, but then come down and fly at high speeds on a flight path similar to an airplane. Their lower trajectory make them more difficult for US missile defense satellites and radars to detect. Earlier reports from Russian state news agency TASS claimed the Avangard has intercontinental range and the ability to fly as fast as Mach 20, more than 15,000 mph.

Russia announced the testing of the Avangard missile system back in 2018, when Putin called the system “invulnerable” due to its ability to evade US defenses.
Earlier this week, Putin boasted of his country’s “unique” advances in hypersonic weaponry, saying other countries were “trying to catch up with us.”
Speaking at a Russian Defense Ministry board meeting, Putin added that “not a single country possesses hypersonic weapons, let alone continental-range hypersonic weapons,” according to a transcript released by the Kremlin on Tuesday.
According to TASS, US inspection officials were shown the latest developments from the Avangard missile system in late November in accordance with the New START Treaty. Like Russia, the US and China are working on hypersonic projects. Beijing said in August that it had successfully tested a hypersonic aircraft, while the US Air Force awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin to develop a missile earlier this year. Watch Chinese Rocket Blast Off From Hainan With Satellite in Lead-Up to 2020 Mars Mission

The Long March 5 is 57 metres tall and weighs 867,000 kg; the massive, heavy lift rocket was manufactured by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology and is viewed as one of the most powerful launch vehicles in the world.

China has successfully launched its Long March 5 rocket from a launch site on the island of Hainan. The heavy-lift vehicle carried a Shinjian 20 satellite into orbit.

In the video of the launch, uploaded by Spaceflight Now portal on Twitter, the rocket is seen just moments before it blasts off. Another camera angle captures a top-down view of the take-off.

​China is eyeing a mission to Mars, and hopes to send a rover to the red planet as early as next year. The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation is expecting the mission to arrive at Mars in 2021.

The Long March 5 rocket is capable of propelling such a rover outside the Earth’s orbit.

In November, Chinese media reported that Beijing had tested its Mars lander in conditions simulating the Martian surface.

US strikes 5 facilities in Iraq and Syria linked to Iranian-backed militia

(CNN)US forces conducted strikes in Iraq and Syria against five facilities tied to an Iranian-backed militia blamed for a series of attacks on joint US-Iraq military facilities housing American forces. The strikes, announced Sunday, are the first significant military response in retaliation for those attacks, which have injured numerous American military personnel. The group is known as Kataib Hezbollah, an Iranian-sponsored Shia militia group. Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman described the strikes as “precision defensive strikes” that “will degrade” the group’s ability to conduct future attacks against coalition forces. The US said the five targets include three Kataib Hezbollah locations in Iraq and two in Syria. The Pentagon said those locations included weapon storage facilities and command and control locations that the group uses “to plan and execute attacks on OIR (Operation Inherent Resolve) coalition forces.” American officials have blamed the group for such attacks like the one on Friday on a base near Kirkuk, Iraq, that killed a US civilian contractor and injured four other US service members. The Pentagon’s Hoffman repeated assertions that this group has links to Iranian forces. “KH has a strong linkage with Iran’s Quds Force and has repeatedly received lethal aid and other support from Iran that it has used to attack OIR coalition forces,” Hoffman said. The White House had no additional comment when reached by CNN on Sunday.

Libya makes formal request for Turkish military support

The request came after Turkey’s President Erdogan said Ankara will send troops to Libya after Tripoli asked for it, and he will present legislation to parliament in January for deployment to the north African country.

Libya’s internationally recognised government has formally requested from Turkey “air, ground and sea” military support to fend off an offensive from warlord Khalifa Haftar’s militia to take the capital Tripoli, a Libyan official said on Thursday.Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan said earlier on Thursday that his country will send troops to Libya at the request of Tripoli as soon as next month.  Speaking in Ankara, Erdogan added the Turkish parliament will in January vote on a motion to send troops to Libya to support the UN-backed government in Tripoli. “We will present the motion to send troops (to Libya) as soon as parliament resumes” on January 7, Erdogan said. “God willing, we will pass it in parliament on January 8-9 and thus respond to an invitation” from the internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, he said. Erdogan’s comments come after Turkey’s parliament on Saturday ratified a security and military cooperation deal with the Libyan government of Fayez al Sarraj. Libya’s Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha said that the GNA will officially demand military aid from Turkey. Addressing a news conference in Tripoli, Bashagha said the aid will be used to confront the militants of warlord Khalifa Haftar, who is fighting the GNA. He alleged that Haftar was providing bases and airports to foreign countries. He reiterated that Turkey, Tunisia and Algeria will form a joint alliance. “There will be great cooperation between Turkey, Tunisia and Algeria, and we will be in one alliance and this will serve our people, our security the stability in the region.” Referring to a meeting between President Erdogan and Tunisian President Kais Saied on Wednesday, he said: “We welcome any initiative that is inclusive of all Libyans as well as any initiative that must be under the auspices of the United Nations.” “We [Turkey and Libya] must unite efforts to launch a political process for a cease-fire in Libya,” he added. Erdogan has in recent weeks vowed to increase military support to the GNA if needed as it battles Haftar, who launched an offensive in April to seize the capital. Turkey and Qatar back the GNA, while Haftar has received support from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia, all of whom have tense relations with Turkey. Erdogan said he also agreed with Tunisia to support the Sarraj government in Libya against the warlord Haftar. Moscow last month denied reports in the New York Times that it had sent had mercenaries to fight on Haftar’s side, while the UN has also accused Haftar’s militia of recruiting fighters from Sudan. Erdogan has said Turkey will not stay silent over mercenaries from the Kremlin-linked Wagner group supporting Haftar. “Russia is there with 2,000 Wagner (fighters),” Erdogan said on Thursday, also referring to some 5,000 fighters from Sudan in Libya. “Is the official government inviting them? No,” he said. “They are helping a warlord. We are responding to an invitation from the legitimate government of Libya,” Erdogan said on Thursday. “That is our difference.” Nick Note: Despite a virtual US news lack out on the Libyan conflict things are getting hot. I am looking for escalating violence to hopefully drive oil prices higher. Our Analysis is that any export disruptions will be short. Which means if we get the spike in oil we regard it as a GREAT selling opportunity. Its another example of the consequences of Trumps abdicating the US role as the worlds policeman. If he does not want the job…. No problem Russia and Turkey are only to happy to fill the void. If your not the police they you are the policed…. And its not near as much fun!
