The American Petroleum Institute (API) estimated that crude oil inventories in the United States fell again, this time by 4.277 million barrels in the week ending June 20 after analysts had estimated a much more conservative 600,000-barrel draw.

The draw adds to last week’s shockingly massive 10.133 million barrel inventory decrease

Earlier this week, the Department of Energy (DoE) reported that crude oil inventories in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) climbed 200,000 barrels to 402.5 million barrels in the week ending June 13. Inventory levels in the SPR are hundreds of millions shy of the levels in inventory prior to the SPR withdrawal that took place under the Biden Administration. Gasoline inventories rose in the week ending June 20, by 764,000 barrels, after falling by 20,000 barrels in the week prior. As of last week, gasoline inventories were 2% below the five-year average for this time of year, according to the latest EIA data. Distillate inventories fell this week by 1.026 million barrels. In the week prior, distillate inventories rose 318,000 barrels. Distillate inventories were already a starting 17% below the five-year average as of the week ending June 13, the latest EIA data shows. Cushing inventories—the benchmark crude stored and traded at the key delivery point for U.S. futures contracts in Cushing, Oklahoma—fell 75,000 barrels in the week after falling 800,000 barrels in the week prior.

United States President Donald Trump stressed that the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites resulted in their complete destruction, pushing back against reports claiming that the attacks were not as effective as advertised.

Crude oil prices extended their losses on Tuesday, tumbling by more than 5.5% after United States President Donald Trump stated that China can now continue to buy oil from Iran, following Tehran’s ceasefire agreement with Israel. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir’s statement that his country is shifting its focus from Iran back to Gaza also reaffirmed investors’ belief in the new ceasefire deal. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for August’s deliveries fell by 5.61% at 1:28 pm ET, going for $64.61 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent for the same month’s settlements declined by 5.64% and went for $667.45 per barrel at 1:29 pm ET.

United States President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Iran and Israel have agreed to a “complete and total” ceasefire. The ceasefire will begin in “approximately six hours from now” after each country has “wound down” their “final missions,” Trump said. The peace process will involve two 12-hour ceasefire periods, starting with Iran. Israel will then follow with the second 12-hour ceasefire and “upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World,” Trump wrote. Both Israel and Iran have yet to confirm they agreed to the ceasefire. Trump stressed that during each ceasefire stage, the other side will keep “peaceful and respectful.” He also congratulated both parties, “on the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will,” for ending a conflict that, he said, “could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East.”

The Times of Israel reported on Monday that more than 100 munitions have been dropped by Israeli fighter jets on key military sites in Tehran over the past two hours. The figure is based on an updated calculation following a series of announcements by the Israeli military during the day. According to the IDF, the strikes targeted major command centers operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including the “Thar-Allah” headquarters, which is designated to protect the capital from internal threats. The “Sayyed al-Shuhada” Corps, another IRGC unit responsible for homeland defense, was also hit. In addition, Israeli forces said they struck the General Intelligence Directorate of Iran’s internal security, which oversees information control and monitors personnel within the agency.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Monday that the Israeli military is at the moment “striking with unprecedented force regime targets and governmental repression bodies in the heart of Tehran.” “For every rocket fired at the Israeli home front, the Iranian dictator will be severely punished, and the strikes will continue with full intensity. We will continue to act to defend the home front and defeat the enemy until all war objectives are achieved,” it was said in a statement issued by Katz’s office, and that “the images will soon be released, illustrating the depth of the damage.” The Israel Defense Forces announced previously that the Israeli Air Force began a series of attacks targeting military sites in Tehran.
