Israel’s Former Foreign Minister and currently the head of the Ministry of Energy, Eli Cohen, slammed on Friday the United Nations General Assembly’s recent decision to enhance the status of Palestinians within the UN, labeling it an “absurd decision.”For his part, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan argued that this move essentially rewards Hamas, a group designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries, including the United States and the European Union.Erdan remarked that the UN was established to protect populations from genocide, but he added that today’s decision does the opposite by potentially legitimizing what he described as “the Hitler of our time” in reference to Hamas.
Israel’s FM: UN decision ‘prize for Hamas’
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Friday said that the latest United Nations General Assembly resolution calling on the UN Security Council to reconsider Palestinian membership to the UN is a “prize for Hamas.” “The absurd decision taken today at the UN General Assembly highlights the structural bias of the UN and the reasons why, under the leadership of UN Secretary-General [Antonio] Guterres, it has turned itself into an irrelevant institution,” the foreign minister said in a statement. “The message that the UN is sending to our suffering region: violence pays off,” he added. Furthermore, Katz claimed that the resolution will make more complicated the negotiations on a ceasefire and hostage deal.
