United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida Aileen Cannon dismissed on Monday the case against former President Donald Trump that charged him with taking certain classified documents from the White House when his tenure ended to his private residence of Mar-a-Lago. According to the court papers, Cannon granted Trump’s request to drop the case due to the “unlawful appointment and funding” of Special Counsel Jack Smith, who presented the charges against the former president. She determined that naming Smith to the case violated the Appointment Clause and the Appropriations Clause of the US Constitution. Smith is permitted to appeal the decision. NN; See how they run. Trump urges ‘dismissal of all witch hunts’ against him
Former United States President Donald Trump reacted on Monday to the dropping of the case that charged him with taking certain national classified documents when he left the White House to his residence in Mar-a-Lago by calling for the “dismissal of all the witch hunts” against him. Writing on Truth Social, Trump urged the cancellation of the cases trying his role in the raid on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, and the supposed financial mishaps undertaken by The Trump Organization, as well as of the two he was found guilty in, meaning E. Jean Carroll’s accusations of sexual abuse and defamation, and falsifying his business records in New York. Trump once again accused President Joe Biden and his administration of being behind these cases and called for the “end [of] all weaponization of our justice system.”
