The bodies of slain former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his family killed alongside him arrived in Iran’s holy city of Qom on Tuesday, local time, with large crowds in attendance. Khamenei’s coffin was placed in the Jamkaran Mosque, with mourners present as prayers were read over it. Media reports indicated that several million people had already participated in the funeral procession so far, with final figures reaching as many as 20 million, potentially making it the largest funeral in history. The funeral will next go to Iraq, before Khamenei is buried in Mashhad in northeastern Iran.
