Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken for about two and a half hours on Tuesday in Jerusalem, in a session characterized as “friendly and productive” in a statement from the PM’s office. The discussions were primarily focused on the “threat” that Iran’s military objectives may pose for the region and the necessity for collaboration between the two countries to combat it. According to the statement, Blinken condemned the recent “Iranian attempt through Hezbollah” to assassinate Netanyahu, labeling it an “extreme and concerning” incident. The leaders also discussed the future governance of Gaza following the ongoing conflict with Netanyahu stressing that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could positively influence both the achievement of war objectives and the return of abductees.
Blinken urges Israel to avoid escalation in Iran response
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday urged Israel to avoid actions that could lead to “greater escalation” in its response to Iran’s attack earlier this month. On October 1, Tehran launched ballistic missiles at Israel after Israel assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. “Since October 7 a year ago, Israel has achieved most of its strategic objectives when it comes to Gaza… Now is the time to turn those successes into enduring, strategic success,” Blinken told reporters in Tel Aviv, stressing that “now” is the time to “end” the war in the Gaza Strip.Meanwhile, air raid alerts nationwide delayed Blinken’s departure from Tel Aviv this morning, following Hezbollah’s claim of targeting a military base in northern Tel Aviv.
