The United States Department of State warned the guarantor nations of the Gaza peace agreement of “credible reports” of ceasefire violations by Hamas and planning attacks “against the people of Gaza.” “This planned attack against Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement and undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts,” the statement said, warning that “should Hamas proceed with this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire.” Additionally, the statement affirmed that “the United States and the other guarantors remain resolute in our commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining calm on the ground, and advancing peace and prosperity for the people of Gaza and the region as a whole.”

Israel conducted airstrikes on Rafah in southern Gaza in response to Hamas’ violation of the ceasefire agreement, Channel 12 reported on Sunday. The response followed an attack by Hamas fighters on an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) engineering unit in Rafah, Israeli media said. According to reports, three airstrikes have been launched as a result. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, held a telephone call to assess the current situation in Gaza. Previously, the United States accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire and planning an attack on Palestinian civilians. Hamas rejected the accusation. The IDF has not provided a comment.
