A global technical outage impacted computers running Microsoft Windows across the world on Friday. According to several media, airline operations, terminal services, telecommunications companies, TV and radio broadcasters, supermarkets and other critical infrastructure have been taken offline after all Windows machines suddenly BSoD’d (Blue Screen of Death). Thomas Matthew Crooks, the would-be assassin who attempted to kill former United States President Donald Trump during his rally on Saturday, was allegedly identified as “suspicious” by law enforcement more than an hour before the shooting, Fox News reported. “He was identified as a character of suspicion because [he had] a rangefinder as well as a backpack. And this was over an hour before the shooting actually occurred,” Senator John Barrasso told the news agency after a briefing between Senate lawmakers and the Secret Service. “So, you would think over the course of that hour, you shouldn’t lose sight of the individual. Somebody ought to be following up on those sorts of things. No evidence of that happening at all,” Barrasso added. A previous report claimed that Crooks was seen on top of the rooftop from which he opened fire on Trump, half an hour before his assassination attempt.

Johnson to seek resignation of Secret Service head

House Speaker Mike Johnson (pictured) told Fox News on Wednesday that he will seek the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle in response to the attempted assassination of ex-United States President Donald Trump. Trump, who had Secret Service protection, was shot in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania and one rally attendee was killed at the event. Johnson said that what happened was “inexcusable” and that he would assemble a task force to investigate Trump’s security at the event. Earlier, Cheatle rejected the possibility of stepping down but insisted the Secret Service needs to take measures to ensure something similar does not happen again. Meanwhile, Trump’s son Donald Jr. claimed there must have been “a serious breach of something” that allowed the shooter to climb onto a roof with a gun amid such security presence.

Pelosi allegedly told Biden polls show he can’t win

A local tactical team sniper photographed Crooks looking through a rangefinder, CBS reported, noting that cellphone video showed rallygoers tried to alert authorities that Crooks was on a rooftop with a rifle about two minutes before shots were fired. On Wednesday, Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming confirmed that Crooks had caught the attention of law enforcement more than an hour before he wounded Trump, killed one attendee and wounded two other people, according to Fox News

Barrasso said the Secret Service was aware of the threat that Crooks potentially represented before Trump took the stage.

Barrasso said Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle must resign.

“The American people shouldn’t feel comfortable with this,” Barrasso said, according to Fox News. “This is a total failure [on behalf of] the Secret Service. We need replacement at the top.”

The rooftop where a gunman shot at former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally was identified by the Secret Service as a potential vulnerability in the days before the event, two sources familiar with the agency’s operations told NBC News. The building, owned by a glass research company, is adjacent to the Butler Farm Show, an outdoor venue in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Secret Service was aware of the risks associated with it, the sources said. “Someone should have been on the roof or securing the building so no one could get on the roof,” said one of the sources, a former senior Secret Service agent who was familiar with the planning.  Understanding how the gunman got onto the roof — despite those concerns — is a central question for investigators scrutinizing how a lone attacker managed to shoot at Trump during Saturday’s campaign event. The Secret Service worked with local law enforcement to maintain event security, including sniper teams poised on rooftops to identify and eliminate threats, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. But no officers were posted on the building used by the would-be assassin, outside the event’s security perimeter but only about 148 yards from the stage — within range of a semiautomatic rifle like the one the gunman was carrying. The Secret Service had designated that rooftop as being under the jurisdiction of local law enforcement, a common practice in securing outdoor rallies, Guglielmi said.Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said his office maintains an Emergency Services Unit team, which deployed four sniper teams and four “quick response teams” at the rally. But he said the Secret Service agents were in charge of security outside the venue.  “They had meetings in the week prior. The Secret Service ran the show. They were the ones who designated who did what,” Goldinger said. “In the command hierarchy, they were top, they were No. 1.”Goldinger said the commander of the Emergency Services Unit told him it was not responsible for securing areas outside the venue. “To me, the whole thing is under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service. And they will delineate from there,” he said. The former senior Secret Service agent also said that even if local law enforcement “did drop the ball,” it’s still the agency’s responsibility “to ensure that they are following through either beforehand or in the moment.” “Just because it is outside of the perimeter, it doesn’t take it out of play for a vulnerability, and you’ve got to mitigate it in some fashion,” the source added. A volley of shots rang out minutes into Trump’s speech. He reached for his right ear — he said later it was pierced by a bullet — then dropped to the ground as Secret Service agents rushed to shield him. Trump emerged with blood on his ear and his face.

U.S. crude oil refinery inputs averaged 16.9 million barrels per day during the week ending July 12, 2024, which was 181 thousand barrels per day less than the previous week’s average. Refineries operated at 93.7% of their operable capacity last week. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.5 million barrels per day. Distillate fuel production increased last week, averaging 5.2 million barrels per day.
U.S. crude oil imports averaged 7.0 million barrels per day last week, increased by 277 thousand barrels per day from the previous week. Over the past four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 6.7 million barrels per day, 1.1% more than the same four-week period last year. Total motor gasoline imports (including both finished gasoline and gasoline blending components) last week averaged 728 thousand barrels per day, and distillate fuel imports averaged 108 thousand barrels per day.

U.S. commercial crude oil inventories (excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) decreased by 4.9 million barrels from the previous week. At 440.2 million barrels, U.S. crude oil
inventories are about 5% below the five year average for this time of year.

Total motor gasoline inventories increased by 3.3 million barrels from last week and are slightly above the five year average for this time of year. Finished gasoline inventories decreased while blending
components inventories increased last week. Distillate fuel inventories increased by 3.5 million
barrels last week and are about 7% below the five year average for this time of year. Propane/propylene inventories increased by 4.6 million barrels from last week and are 16% above the five year average for this time of year. Total commercial petroleum inventories
increased by 10.4 million barrels last week. Total products supplied over the last four-week period averaged 20.5 million barrels a day, up by 1.2% from the same period last year. Over the past four weeks, motor gasoline product supplied averaged 9.1 million barrels a day, up by 0.2% from the same period last year. Distillate fuel product supplied averaged 3.6 million barrels a day over the past four weeks, up by 3.9% from the same period last year. Jet fuel product supplied was up 0.7% compared with the same four week period last year.

Oil rises by 1% after US inventories report

The prices of oil futures advanced on Wednesday after the United States  posted a decline in its inventories of 4.9 million barrels according to the Energy Information Administration. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for August increased to sell for $81.00 per barrel. Brent for September settlements was quoted at $84.66 per barrel.
